an introduction to Head Press
Many voices, many reasons
Head Press found its genesis in the dissatisfaction with modern media’s increasingly virulent habit of specialisation. There is a tendency in contemporary publications to focus solely on one area of specialist interest, and in order to find a market for one’s writing, one must push ever further into a niche area, cornering off a soon to be overpopulated section of written expression. As soon as someone finds a new niche market that will support itself – i.e. it makes a profit – they will find themselves joined by modern prospectors.
Head Press’s small act of resistance to this tide is to provide a space where many authors of many styles can submit work on many subjects. We do not restrict ourselves to print media, and here you will find an ever increasing database of thought in word, image and broadcast media. The articles by nature speak across disciplines and engage with subjects open to debate – indeed it is here that such debates are encouraged. There is no desire to create a unified voice, to stick to a single editorial line. The only editorial line here is to find new voices to add to the debate and new links to make between subjects.
Head Press is always seeking new additions to its pool of contributors. We will consider any work sent through. We will always support our contributors in their work. We will always respect the right of contributors to retain ownership of their work. Head Press considers it essential to support all it can to contribute to the debates that take place on this website. Here’s a chance to add to the debate, to foster a genuinely interdisciplinary and international dialogue.
